Danny was asked to leave his family home at the young age of 14. “When I got kicked out, I didn’t know where I’d end up or what I’d be doing,” he said.
After two years without a fixed address, staying where he could and couch-surfing, Danny was finally hooked up with Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) in London.
This past year, Danny also participated in the Hockey Helps the Homeless tournament and played on a winning team. “I’m looking forward to having a jersey with my name on it. I think that’s going to be pretty cool,” Apacik said.
Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) has been providing youth focused services in London, Ontario and Middlesex County since 1982; helping 3,000 young people annually achieve educational, training, employment and personal development goals.
Funds donated through Hockey Helps the Homeless will support the outreach programs, specialized support groups and special housing costs for youth who are experiencing homelessness. The benefits of this investment will result in specialized healthcare resources, outreach programming and housing support services targeted to youth like Danny experiencing homelessness in London.
