Hockey Helps the Homeless (HHTH) started in 1996 when a group of Toronto businessmen decided to turn an annual industry hockey tournament into a charitable event for the homeless in the city of Toronto. Their idea turned out to be a huge success and quickly spread to cities from coast to coast including Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver.
HHTH is a volunteer based organization with over 200 volunteers donating their time each year at tournaments across Canada. With the help of our generous sponsors and enthusiastic hockey fans of all walks of life, we’ve been able to take a simple idea -- leveraging Canada's love of hockey -- to make a difference in the lives of thousands of homeless people across the country. Going forward, our dream is to take Hockey Helps the Homeless to cities, towns and communities of all sizes everywhere in Canada.
But Hockey Helps the Homeless is not just about tournaments. We also have our Hockey Helps the Homeless Cup to educate teens about homelessness and inspire them to make a difference, today and for generations to come. We organize a wide range of fundraising activities to benefit the homeless and build long-term relationships with select outreach organizations, each one carefully reviewed and selected by our local city committees. We’re also fortunate to have the support of national and local corporate sponsors who share our passion for hockey and our commitment to brightening the lives of the less fortunate.
